He is a homegrown player straight out of the textbook: since the U6s, Armin Midzic has been lacing up his boots for LASK, and to this day the 19-year-old has never worn any other jersey than that of the Athletiker. That won’t change anytime soon either: the center-back and vice-captain of LASK Amateure has extended his contract with the Black-and-Whites ahead of schedule until 2027.

Armin Midzic’s journey with LASK has already lasted more than 14 years, filled with countless chapters of moving stories. From his beginnings with the Bambinis, through his youth days under Helmut and Stefan Köglberger, the leap into the academy with up to seven training sessions per week, all the way to his emotional professional debut in December 2024.

The deep bond between the Linz-born player and his hometown club grew stronger year by year, and by now his heart beats black-and-white. “For me, there is nothing but LASK. This club is like a second family to me, it’s my life. Playing for this club is simply wow,” enthuses the 19-year-old, who has now signed a new contract running until 2027. “It has always been a very, very big goal of mine to earn a professional contract with LASK.”

For several years now Armin’s living room: the voestalpine Stadium in Pasching.

Vice-captain and key player

In recent years, Midzic has matured not only into a key performer but also into a leader in the second team. Since this year, he has taken on responsibility as vice-captain, a role he already fulfills almost in the style of a seasoned veteran. He supports his teammates both on and off the pitch and leads by example with his performances. “As vice-captain I have a lot of responsibility. We’ve had a really strong start and I’m really proud of the team,” says Midzic, rightly happy with the season so far.

After eight games, head coach Andreas Wieland’s side sits unbeaten at the top of the table, most recently thrashing FC Gleisdorf 7–3. “We have a very, very good team with a lot of quality and many players who bring excellent individual performances,” says the center-back, who also sees team cohesion as a recipe for success. “There’s very good communication within the team, even if not everyone speaks the same language. We have players who translate everything, and we all get along really well. I think that’s one of the keys to why we’re top of the table and why things are going so well for us.”

The LASK Amateurs, led by vice-captain Armin Midzic, remain unbeaten at home this year.

First team as the goal

While his full focus is currently on the second team, Midzic has his sights set on the Bundesliga in the medium term. Just like last March, when he made his debut in Austria’s top flight – only a few months after his first appearance for the pros in the UEFA Conference League. “That was really nice; I was able to get a taste of the top level and learn a lot. Right now the focus is on the second team and on continuing to develop – and then later I want to be ready for the first team.”

The headline “First Bundesliga goal for LASK” is the target he has set for himself – it would mark the next extraordinary chapter in what will hopefully be a long journey of Armin Midzic at LASK.

Armin Midzic dreams of the Bundesliga – and of his first goal for the LASK first team.
