LASK are boosting their defence: Dutch centre-back Xavier Mbuyamba joins the Athletikers with immediate effect. The 24-year-old moves from top-flight side FC Volendam, where he spent the past three and a half years, to the Upper Austrian capital and has signed a contract until 2028.

Mbuyamba primarily features as a centre-back and stands at an imposing 1.95 metres. In the current season, the Dutchman made 16 appearances in the Eredivisie, scoring one goal. He quickly established himself as a regular starter in his first season at Volendam and even wore the captain’s armband in his second year. During the club’s immediate return to the top flight in 2024/25, he not only featured in 34 matches but also demonstrated his goal threat with five goals.

Mbuyamba received his youth training in his hometown at MVV Maastricht before joining FC Barcelona’s U19 side in 2019. A year later, he moved to the UK, where he made 33 appearances for Chelsea’s U21 team. In 2019, he also earned one cap for the Netherlands U19 national team. At LASK, the defender has signed a contract until the summer of 2028.

With Xavier, we are signing a player who has an excellent sense of positioning. He is strong in the air both defensively and offensively, which also makes him a real goal threat. In addition, he stands out for his composure on the ball and his ability to find good solutions in the build-up play. We are very pleased that he has decided to join LASK.

Dino Buric, Sporting Director

LASK showed a great deal of interest in me. We had very positive discussions, and I quickly realised that this move is exactly the right step for my personal development. The club’s facilities and opportunities are very attractive, and the ambitions align with my own goals, which is why I’m really looking forward to this new challenge.
