João Sacramento becomes new head coach of LASK
The coaching question has been settled: internationally experienced João Sacramento will take over as head coach of LASK in the future. The 36-year-old Portuguese has signed a two-year contract running until summer 2027.
Despite his young age, Sacramento already brings extensive experience at the highest level of international football and has worked in recent years with renowned top players as well as globally recognized and successful head coaches. Most recently, the Portuguese was employed under Christophe Galtier in the Qatari Stars League with Al Duhail SC.
He took his first steps in coaching at the age of 18, beginning his education with a degree in Football Coaching and Performance at what is now the University of South Wales, later completing it with a master’s degree. Through a comprehensive and detailed analysis of José Mourinho’s work and his concept of tactical periodization, as well as work for the Welsh Football Association and Cardiff City, he quickly advanced his career.
In 2014, Luis Campos brought him to AS Monaco as head of the analysis department, where he supported head coach Leonardo Jardim. In 2017, the Iberian followed the call of OSC Lille, where Sacramento served as assistant coach under Marcelo Bielsa and Galtier and briefly acted as interim manager. This era culminated in a runner-up finish in the league and qualification for the UEFA Champions League in the fall of 2019.
Stations at Paris, Tottenham, and AS Roma
The next chapter of his career brought Sacramento together with José Mourinho, who brought him to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in November 2019. There, at the age of just 30, he worked with world-class players like Harry Kane and Gareth Bale. Two years later, he followed his compatriot to AS Roma, before returning to France to once again join Galtier as assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain. There, the team featuring superstars like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, and Sergio Ramos won the French league title. From October 2023 to summer 2025, Sacramento worked alongside Galtier in Qatar.
The 36-year-old, who speaks Spanish, French, English, Italian, and Portuguese fluently, has earned a reputation as a distinguished tactician. He is regarded as a precise analyst and meticulous worker who relies on the most modern training methods. Sacramento will officially begin his role with the start of summer preparations and will work with the existing staff to prepare the team for the new season. The official presentation will take place at the start of training.
„
João is a meticulous worker with exceptional international experience. He has worked at the highest level in France, England, and Italy and brings tremendous tactical depth. What impressed us most is his ability to improve players individually and further develop teams structurally. Moreover, he has an outstanding way of communicating his ideas to the players and inspiring them with his vision. We are convinced that his clear playing philosophy and modern leadership style are a perfect fit for our path at LASK.

„
I’m very excited to become part of LASK – a club with a clear vision, great passion, and ambitious goals. From the very beginning, the conversations with the club's officials were truly inspiring. I see great potential in the team and am convinced that we can develop something special together. I can’t wait to start working with the squad and the existing coaching staff around Maximilian Ritscher and to excite the fans with our football.
