New signing number four is in the bag: Kosovo international Art Smakaj will join LASK. The 22-year-old midfielder is making the move from Croatian top-flight side Lokomotiva Zagreb to Linz and has signed a contract until the summer of 2028.

Smakaj was an undisputed starter for Lokomotiva Zagreb last season, featuring in 32 of the club’s 36 Croatian SuperSport HNL matches – all from the starting lineup. The 22-year-old, who is comfortable playing both as a defensive midfielder and center-back, recorded two goals and five assists.

Standing at 1.84 meters, Smakaj made a total of 81 competitive appearances for Lokomotiva, where he made his professional debut in February 2022 at the age of 19. Including his time in the youth academy, he spent nine and a half years at the club and also got to know future LASK teammate Lukas Kacavenda during that period. Earlier in his career, Smakaj developed in the youth systems of Dinamo Zagreb and NK Trnje Zagreb.

The technically gifted midfielder also brings senior international experience to Linz: On June 5, 2024, he made his debut for Kosovo’s national team in a match against Norway, having previously represented his country at various youth levels. At LASK, he has signed a three-year contract running until 2028 and will wear the number five shirt.

Art Smakaj is exactly the type of player we were looking for in midfield. He’s a young, very dynamic player who brings a lot of energy and passion to the pitch, takes responsibility, and always wants to be on the ball. From our very first conversation, it was clear that he’s a player with real personality – both on and off the field. We’re confident that he will add extra quality to our squad.
