New Number One: Lukas Jungwirth Signs Long-Term Extension
Following the departure of Tobias Lawal, LASK is continuing its strategy of recent years by once again placing its trust in a homegrown talent between the posts. Lukas Jungwirth will take over as the Athletiker’s new number one and has also signed a long-term contract extension, extending his current deal (which ran until 2026) through to the summer of 2029.
The successor to Lawal once again comes from within LASK’s own ranks: U21 national team goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth will now wear the number one jersey. The 21-year-old is a textbook academy product — he joined LASK from Wartberg at the age of ten, progressed through the club’s academy system, and made his second-division debut for FC Juniors at just 16 years old.
After making 51 appearances for the second team, Jungwirth became a regular member of the first-team squad last season. In addition to six appearances as a cooperation player for Admira Wacker, he made his senior debut for LASK in October 2024, keeping goal in a 2–1 win over WSG Tirol.
Five more appearances followed, including three in the UEFA Conference League. Now, the 1.93-meter-tall shot-stopper has been handed the responsibility of first-choice goalkeeper at LASK — along with a contract extension: originally signed through 2026, Jungwirth has now committed his future to the club until the summer of 2029.

We are very pleased to continue our path with Lukas Jungwirth and once again fill the number one goalkeeper position with a homegrown player who has been with LASK since childhood. He already proved during his appearances last season that he is ready to take the next step and has our full trust. In addition to his goalkeeping skills and strong technical abilities, he brings a remarkable personality despite his young age. His impressive development is yet another testament to LASK’s goalkeeper academy, which has been providing top-level training for many years.
